Finland is considered the happiest country in the world but when it comes to the bureaucracy of the immigration system against foreigners the reality is different.

There is an article in yle news that states that the migri (Migri is the Finnish immigration) denied someone a resident permit because he earn too much. This is not the first time this kind of decision are made but this is the one that gets the media attention. We don’t have the whole information at the moment but it is very possible to get such decisions. The main thing is that the government and the immigration system do not recognize Wolt couriers as secure work nor do they recognize them as entrepreneurs. There are many gray areas in this area.

I have seen situations where the migri denied and deport a Wolt courier worker and still cancel his current residence permit on the grounds that he is not making enough. The person in question used to make around 2500€-3000€ in 2weeks before Covid, but during Covid things change.

The reality of the inconsistency of decisions in the immigration system in Finland is not known by the public. The foreign nationals are the only ones feeling the pain, and most time the media is neither interested in telling the story. There have been many deportation decision that doesn’t even get appealed.

The same government will still use the media to say they are short of labor-power when they are still the one deporting the manpower they have here.

When it comes to immigration decisions it depends on the mood of the agent responsible for your case. Some people don’t have any stress with their application while others have to go through hell to stay here. Mostly I still don’t know why the system enjoys making life difficult for hard-working residents in Finland.

The same situation is applicable to job search in Finland. The authorities will complain about not having enough people to work however, companies are not ready to even take foreign nationals that are educated to work. I find it hard to understand the situation in Finland. The worst thing is that when you apply for the job you don’t even get an acknowledgment letter that we received your application but we don’t have an opening at this time. I think the country needs to change its attitude and integrate with others.

Finland still has systematic and institutional racism embedded in its system. The people don’t appreciate hard work non so they accept competition. It is almost impossible to be rich in Finland as an immigrant because when you are the system will find a way to bring you down.

Many foreigners that have companies in Finland face a certain level of business racism. Many people I know have closed their companies due to this same madness. Imagine I have to close my company due to the same situation. After making 30,000€ a year I have to pay 8000€ of VAT and now a new VAT of 3000€ is added again. Don’t forget that I have 11500£ expenses and I have also paid almost 3000€ of tax. Not forgetting retirement expenses. I know and have heard from other friends that Finnish accountants deliberately do those ridiculous tax calculations for foreigners and I have seen the reality myself.

So for me, I come to see Finland as a retirement country for old people, not a country where foreigners can freely come to make money.
